Accreditation and Approvals - Institutional Information
Johnson & Wales University (JWU) is accredited by the New England Association of Schools & Colleges, Inc. (NEASC), through its Commission on Institutions of Higher Education. This accreditation encompasses the university's four campuses in Providence, R.I.; North Miami, Fla.; Denver, Colo., and Charlotte, N.C. Legal control is vested in the Board of Trustees of Johnson & Wales University. The university is approved for the training of veterans. JWU is an institutional member of Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges. The university is authorized under federal law to enroll non-immigrant alien students. JWU is listed in the Education directory of Colleges & Universities issued by the U.S. Department of Education. JWU, its faculty, and members of the administrative staff hold affiliations with numerous organizations.

Johnson & Wales University will make available for review to any enrolled or prospective student, upon request, a copy of the documents describing the institution's accreditation, approval or licensing. Providence Campus
The State of Rhode Island has chartered Johnson & Wales University as a nonprofit degree-granting institution of higher learning.

Culinary Nutrition
The Providence Campus Culinary Nutrition program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetics Association, 120 South Riverside Plaza, Suite 2000, Chicago, IL 60606-6995, 312-899-0040 ext. 5400.The Providence Campus Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) meets the standards of education set by CADE.

Graduate Programs
The M.B.A. program in Hospitality & Global Business Leadership at the Alan Shawn Feinstein Graduate School, with concentrations in marketing, finance, and event leadership, meets the continuous improvement standards of the TedQual Certification System, The TedQual Certification System is a World Tourism Organization (WTO), THEMIS Foundation sponsored program.

The Master of Arts in Teaching program at the School of Education is certified by the Rhode Island Department of Education. Graduates of the M.A.T. attain dual teaching certification in each of the following areas:
• Elementary Education & Elementary Special Education
• Elementary Education & Secondary Special Education
• Secondary Business Education & Secondary Special Education
• Secondary Food Service Education & Secondary Special Education

The following triple certification requires additional fieldwork and an additional eight weeks of student teaching:
• Elementary Education & Elementary Special Education & Secondary Special Education

North Miami Campus
JWU is licensed by the Commission for Independent Education, Florida Department of Education. Denver Campus
The Colorado Commission on Higher Education has authorized JWU under the Degree Authorization Act to offer instruction leading to the award of credits and / or degrees in Colorado.

The Denver Campus has been granted developmental accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetics Association, 120 South Riverside Plaza, Suite 2000, Chicago, IL 60606-6995, 312-899-0040 ext. 5400. Charlotte Campus
The Board of Governors of the University of North Carolina has licensed JWU under G.S. 116-15(b) to conduct degree activity in North Carolina. Please see Accreditation & Approvals for institutional information.

2008 NEASC VISIT
Johnson & Wales University will undergo a comprehensive evaluation visit October 26-30, 2008, by a team representing the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.               

The Commission on Institutions of Higher Education is one of eight accrediting commissions in the United States that provide institutional accreditation on a regional basis. Accreditation is voluntary and applies to the institution as a whole. The Commission, which is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, accredits approximately 200 institutions in the six-state New England region.

Johnson & Wales University has been accredited by the Commission since 1993 and was last reviewed in 1998. Its accreditation by the New England Association encompasses the entire institution.

For the past year and a half, Johnson & Wales University has been engaged in a process of self-study, addressing the Commissions Standards of Accreditation. An evaluation team will visit the institution to gather evidence that the self-study is thorough and accurate. The team will recommend to the Commission a continuing status for the institution; following a review process, the Commission itself will take the final action.

Comments must address substantive matters related to the quality of the institution. Comments will not be treated as confidential.

Written, signed comments must be received by October 30, 2008. The Commission cannot guarantee that comments received after that due date will be considered. Comments should include the name, address, and telephone number of the person providing the comments.

The Commission cannot settle disputes between individuals and institutions, whether those involve faculty, students, administration, or members of other groups. Individuals considering submitting complaints against an affiliated institution should request the separate Policy and Procedures for the Consideration of Complaints Made Against Affiliated Institutions from the Commission office.
